Japan Viewpoint: Tips for retailers to secure storefront space amid lack of vacancies

CBRE expects retailers will be forced to adopt more flexible storefront strategies to maximize the opportunities available to them. These include:

1. Flexibility in lease conditions: Adopt a more flexible position towards store size and/or launch period.
2. Addition of more cities as potential locations: As well as Tokyo and Osaka, consider cities with strong potential for stores targeting inbound tourist demand.
3. Pro-active investment in new areas: Identify and invest in areas where tenant demand is expected to increase, thereby improving foot traffic through cross-store synergy.
