CBRE (Japan Headquarters: Marunouchi, Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo) advised Herman Miller Japan Co., Ltd. (hereinafter Herman Miller Japan) with the opening of their second directly-managed store in Japan, "Herman Miller Store Aoyama." Located in the chic, design-minded Aoyama area, the store, which opened on December 11, 2020, allows shoppers to experience the brand's high-performance products first-hand.
Ben Matsuzaki, President, Herman Miller Japan, who oversaw the project, said, "As part of our global strategy and response to the changing needs and work styles of this new normal era, we wanted to create an experience-based store dedicated to products that support the home office and small businesses. We began the property search in early 2020 but the pandemic and restrictions on movement made it very difficult. Despite these challenges, CBRE found a property that was in an area that matched Herman Miller's vision and target market. Convinced this was the best location to cater to our customers, I proposed and showed images of the property to our U.S. headquarters via video conference and obtained their approval. Thanks to CBRE's support, we were able to open the store as we originally envisioned, and for that we are very grateful."
Tatsuya Sugita (Advisory & Transaction Services | Retail, CBRE) also commented, "I am very pleased that CBRE was able to support Herman Miller with the opening of their second directly-operated store in Japan following Herman Miller Marunouchi, the brand's first store globally which opened in 2010. In keeping with the brand image, we proposed properties that had high ceilings and a lot of natural light, and those that were located in stylish areas. Our proposal was well-received by the client and despite the tight schedule due the pandemic, we were able to help them open the store as planned. With many retailers focusing on a hybrid business model bridging online and offline strategies, physical stores will remain key for customers to experience products and brands first-hand. We will use this experience to continue to provide integrated solutions that deliver successful outcomes for our clients' store opening projects."
