CBRE Supports AbbVie GK's Headquarters Relocation

CBRE advised AbbVie GK, the Japanese subsidiary of AbbVie Inc., a global biopharmaceutical company, with the lease agreement and implementation of activity-based working (ABW) for their new headquarters.

October 23, 2020

CBRE advised AbbVie GK (hereinafter AbbVie), the Japanese subsidiary of AbbVie Inc., a global biopharmaceutical company, with the lease agreement and implementation of activity-based working (ABW) for their new headquarters.

As a result of this project, the previous headquarters which were located across three non-consecutive floors of an office building about a 10-minute walk from JR Tamachi Station, relocated to “msb Tamachi” Tamachi Station Tower S, a state-of-the-art office building completed in May 2018. With 31 floors above ground and two basement floors, AbbVie's new home base occupies floors 14-16.

Under strict schedule management, CBRE successfully contributed to this project by advising on the selection of building and also on an office design that promoted flexible workstyles.

Toshiya Saito (Group Manager, General Affairs, Finance & Strategy), who oversaw the project, commented, "The office building chosen for our new headquarters is one that is aligned with AbbVie's culture as a healthcare company. During the building selection process, we simultaneously had internal conversations about what we envisioned our future workstyle to look like. We set goals based on four themes: enhance wellness and vitality; advance agile productivity; inspire collaborative innovation; and delayer our culture. In order to achieve these goals, we introduced ABW and implemented change management to support employees with the new way of working. It was a very challenging project, but with the help of CBRE's dedicated team, the office construction and relocation process went smoothly and effectively.”

Atsushi Kinra (Senior Director, Tenant Representation, CBRE Advisory & Transaction Services) added, "It was a challenging and rewarding project for us to support. The project aimed to improve the satisfaction of AbbVie's employees and to raise workstyle awareness, while also maximizing the client's bottom line in terms of lease terms. We will use this experience to continue to strive to meet the increasingly diverse and sophisticated needs of our clients."
