◆Hirokazu Ono, Head of Data Center Advisory Services, CBRE
For more than half a century in Japan, CBRE has leveraged our extensive experience in commercial real estate development, brokerage, and leasing to provide optimal solutions to global clients seeking data center sites and facility development services. We are delighted to partner with TGES and LCDJ through this Agreement on CGS, utilizing the strengths of our global platform to help shorten data center development timelines.
In the data center sector, securing power supply after land acquisition often requires an extended period, posing a major challenge for operators. CGS is a globally proven solution that enables early use of both power generation and waste heat, and we believe it can serve as a new “power source for data centers” in Japan. As real estate experts, CBRE will leverage our robust market insights and data-driven analysis, working closely with TGES and LCDJ to support the acceleration of data center development.
◆Yukimaro Murata, Director Senior Managing Executive Officer & CMO, TGES
Since introducing CGS to the Japan National Stadium in 1981, the Tokyo Gas Group has been committed to promoting distributed energy systems. In 2002, we established Energy Advance, the predecessor of TGES, as a dedicated company to launch on-site energy services using CGS and other distributed energy technologies, and since then, we have expanded and enhanced our operations both domestically and internationally.
Through engineering solutions grounded in decades of operational expertise—including 24/7 remote monitoring, predictive maintenance, and design enhancements developed in collaboration with manufacturers—we ensure stable and reliable operation of energy facilities. In addition to consulting on high-efficiency operations using energy-saving diagnostics and advanced automation, we support customers in optimizing energy usage and decarbonization through the introduction of renewable energy solutions such as solar PPA models.
The Tokyo Gas Group has long contributed to realizing a carbon-neutral society. Moving forward, TGES will collaborate with CBRE and LCDJ to help address the social challenge of grid constraints hindering new data center construction, contributing to faster data center deployment through TGES’s “Hybrid Power Supply DC Solution”.
◆Ryuta Bunpei, President & CEO, LCDJ
Extended timelines for securing power supply—often the greatest bottleneck in data center development—represent a significant challenge for strengthening Japan’s digital infrastructure. This Agreement is highly meaningful in that it establishes a practical model that secures a “quick-to-deploy power source” using existing gas power infrastructure, thereby dramatically shortening the time to launch. By bridging the needs of both operators and infrastructure providers, we have created a scalable model. LCDJ will continue working to extend this collaborative model to digital infrastructure initiatives across Japan.
