This report considers the issue of the necessity for increased efficiency of logistics networks driven primarily by the so-called “2024 problem”, and the latent demand for modern logistics facilities which this will generate.

Improvements in the efficiency of Japan’s logistics networks are essential if freight capacity is to be maintained even after truck drivers’ working hours are reduced. While some companies, most notably major logistics operators, have already implemented countermeasures, the majority of affected parties have yet to finish or even start putting strategies in place to mitigate the damage. Between now and April 2024, and indeed beyond, corporations making use of the logistics network will certainly redouble their efforts to alleviate the problem, which is likely to lead directly to an expanded role for modern logistics facilities.
