CBRE announced today the completion of a major integration and relocation project for Japan Post Group, consolidating four companies (Japan Post Holdings, Japan Post, Japan Post Bank, and Japan Post Insurance) and its 6,000 employees into one 60,000m2 office location in Otemachi Place West Tower. CBRE provided comprehensive project management services and concluded this project in February 2019.
In January 2015, Japan Post Group contracted CBRE to project manage the centralization and relocation of the group's head offices which were then spread across eight separate locations around Kasumigaseki, Chiyoda-ku. The group now occupies the 3rd floor, and floors 6-24 of Otemachi Place West Tower, a large-scale building completed in August 2018.
CBRE was involved from the initial planning stages, supporting the analysis of the work place, schedule management, design management, quality management, relocation management, and work style reform.
"The entire relocation had to be carried out in two months, averaging 800 people per week. To successfully execute a project of this magnitude, preparedness and a coordinated approach was critical," said Takashi Saito from Japan Post who oversaw the project. "Had it not been for CBRE's full-scale support and close teamwork, we would not have been able to achieve such a feat. The now integrated office has helped eliminate barriers between group companies and generate new synergies. I can witness and feel the benefits of the relocation – there is excitement in the air."
Shin Sasada (Senior Project Manager, Project Management, Global Workplace Solutions, CBRE) also commented, "I am honored to be involved in such a major project from start to finish. It took almost four years to determine and analyze the four companies' various requirements, and two months to move approximately 6,000 employees and the office furniture, fixtures, and documents. With the cooperation of the Japan Post Group's 'Head Office Relocation Promotion Office', the project was successfully completed without delay. As a business, we will strive to continue to provide strategic counsel that support our clients' relocation needs."
